Not that I should get my blog post ideas from Live with Kelly & Michael on a regular basis (ya, right) but this morning’s coffee klatch with them revealed a story that actually had me looking up from Twitter: “A controversial US study has concluded that hurricanes that sounded more feminine caused more fatalities” — why? Because of the feminine name, people take it less seriously than if it had a male name.
Let me write that again ICYMI: Because of the feminine name, people take it less seriously than if it had a male name.
Even Kelly Ripa had the good sense to be incensed when she heard that. Michael just look surprised that she was mad. “Why are you enraged?” he asked her. “Why?” She said. “WHY? Because I’m a woman” … I’m paraphrasing of course because 9 hours and 2 glasses of wine later, I can’t remember her exact words.
The really sad part is that this doesn’t surprise me. At. All. (not the can’t remembering after 9 hours and 2 glasses and wine part… the part where people take a weather emergency LESS SERIOUSLY because it has a feminine name attached to it… that latter part, I can believe).
